Huge list of cancellations and closures: All Public Libraries Will Close August 8 Due to Hurricane Iselle All state offices will close Friday. Public schools across Hawaii will not be holding classes tomorrow. The state Department of Education announced today all public and charters schools will be closed due to the two hurricanes that are expected to hit the islands. Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi says all inter-scholastic athletic events and activities are also canceled. Folks can find additional information on the school closures at HawaiiPublicSchools. All University of Hawaii campuses, including community colleges, will be closed Friday because of Hurricane Iselle, officials announced. For updates regarding university campuses, visit hawaii.edu/emergency. Due to the anticipated severe weather conditions, Kauai CC will be closed on Friday, August 8, 2014. All non-essential employees shall not report to work. Essential employees will be called as needed. All Kauai CC classes, activities, and services, including the Community Market that are scheduled during the period from Friday, August 8, through Sunday, August 10, are cancelled. The Fifth Circuit Court will be closed on Friday, August 8, due to inclement weather projected by the National Weather Service. The closures include the Children’s Justice Centers, Offices of the Public Guardian, the Administrative Driver’s License Revocation and Drivers Education Offices. The Chief Justice will be issuing an order extending deadlines on the cases that are affected. A copy of the order will be posted on the Hawaii State Judiciarys webpage. COUNTY: County offices and services will be open Friday until 12 Noon. The Kauai Bus Will operate it normal schedule Friday until 12 noon unless conditions worsen All Transfer Stations and the Kekaha landfill will close early at 2 PM on Friday. All Kauai County Beach Parks are currently closed due to potentially hazardous ocean conditions Port of Nawiliwili closed Friday to commercial water operations starting at 4PM while land operations at the facility will remain open. More than 50 flights have been canceled Thursday either into or out of Hawaii airports by mainland and international carriers. The state Department of Transportation said at 10 a.m. Thursday that all of the states airports remain open. The states largest carrier, Hawaiian Airlines, said it has not canceled any flights and will make a decision Thursday afternoon if any flights will be affected. United Airlines, American Airlines, WestJet and JetStar collectively canceled 10 arriving flights at Honolulu Airport Thursday and 16 departing flights. On Kauai, there have been two canceled departing flights. Island Air will cancel flights servicing Maui and Lanai beginning Thursday afternoon and will suspend all flights on Friday because of hurricanes Iselle and Julio. All flights servicing Kauai on Thursday will continue to operate until its last flight departing at 7:34 p.m. Bon dance scheduled for this Friday and Saturday at the Waimea Shingon Mission has been cancelled per Pearl Shimizu. Garden Island Canoe Racing Association has cancelled the Na Pali Challenge scheduled for Saturday August 9th, 2014 The Līhu‘e Sunshine Market will not be held on Friday, Aug. 8 due to the approaching storms.
