Huge news from the White House today on preserving net neutrality, an issue on which the Juelsgaard Clinic did substantial work last quarter for client Engine, preparing a whitepaper that analyzed and explained the source and scope of the powers the FCC has to ensure an open internet and why a truly open Internet is essential for critical innovation, startups and entrepreneurs. In his statement today, President Obama urged the FCC to reclassify both wired and wireless consumer broadband service under Title II of the Telecommunications Act but also to forebear from rate and other unneeded regulation that isnt focused on prohibiting fast lanes and slow lanes for content. “Net neutrality has been built into the fabric of the Internet since its creation — but it is also a principle that we cannot take for granted. We cannot allow Internet service providers (ISPs) to restrict the best access or to pick winners and losers in the online marketplace for services and ideas. That is why today, I am asking the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to answer the call of almost 4 million public comments, and implement the strongest possible rules to protect net neutrality.
