Hum-drum day. Started out by performing some cosmetic surgery on the lips of the last painting. They may appear more kissie now but are still not quite to the liking of the owner... of the lips, not the painting. This a reason, mentioned earlier, why I resist doing portraits. People too often have a very different view of themselves as I. Its just too political. The other two canvases, 4 X 5, had been painted for Saint Anthonys church in Wichita. I painted a total of nine murals, six Lunettes of saints as well as two 12 X 12 and one 24 X 12 canvases for behind the altars. Fist pictured here is Saint Luke, he was rejected by the Art Director who wished him two inch taller and an inch to the left. He also objected to the bull appearing to be read a story by Luke... when in actuality he, the bull, was dictating Luke as to what to write down..... This, and other displays of power-trips and conflicts, did confirm what I always held to be wise. Never deal with an in-between, deal directly with your clients. There is far more to be said on the subject, but I will spare you. The last is identical to the Saint Michael I did paint for this project. I just had to have one for myself. Originally I planed to paint this one more Germanic holding a Ger (remember the short spear Ger-Man carried) in his left hand... I may still change it. Lukas was to be donated to St. Anthonys but they did not hold up their part of a related bargain. So when finished it will be sold or donated elsewhere. Mike, much the same. Along the way I will post photos of the murals with some explanation of the process.
