Human Capital Development Project at WIUU To help increase competitiveness of its students and graduates on the labor market of Ukraine, WIUU is announcing a project under the title “Human Capital Development as an Effective Tool of Reaching Labor Market Success” Theoretical foundation of the project: This project is designed based on the Human Capital Theory which states that there is strong positive correlation between individual (or group) human capital and economic success of this individual (or group). Human Capital is about skills and qualities of workers that are rewarded in the labor market. Human capital is people’s abilities, qualities, knowledge and skills that make them economically productive and financially successful. Basically, human capital is all acquired qualities that labor market values and that can be sold on the labor market. Companies always look for people with such qualities and are willing to pay them good salaries. Therefore, in order to help university students and graduates be more competitive on the labor market it is necessary to assess the personnel qualities that companies – in their quest for economic success – currently have and are looking for in the future. It is necessary to assess, what employees’ qualities are rewarded on the labor market. Goal: Help students and graduates of WIUU identify the qualities that employers are demanding and develop such qualities in themselves. This will help students and graduates know what needs the job market in Ukraine has and be ready to meet these needs by developing in themselves and providing required qualities. This will help WIUU improve its current programs and develop new programs which will more fully answer the needs of students. Method: Receive feedback from individuals employed on the labor market. A survey is a standard tool for this purpose. Analysis of survey answers will provide information for the designing of training programs aimed at human capital development to be offered to WIUU students and friends. Process: 1. Ask current MBA students to fill in the Survey: • What qualities of employee are rewarded on the labor market of Ukraine most of all? • What skills of employee are rewarded on the labor market of Ukraine most of all? 2. Put together all answers and prepare another Survey, which will contain all the answers that were provided. 3. Load that new Questionnaire to WIUU website and ask MBA graduates to fill it in. In this new Survey, ask MBA graduates and students to choose those qualities and skills that are “most expensive” in the labor market. 4. Design trainings for development of those qualities and skills and offer them to WIUU students and friends with the Center of International Cooperation, Education and Training.
