Human Merit: A merit mentality is a common, but false view of gaining a right relationship with the Savior on the basis of ones performance or behavior. The Scriptures do not reveal human merit to be the standard for obtaining forgiveness of sin. We are simply unable to please Him on the basis of actions or accomplishments. Christ righteousness alone is sufficient. Any attempt to add to His finished work is a blatant declaration that His death, burial and resurrection were not quite enough. We may think it cute when a child says, Let ME do it! In terms of our salvation from sins penalty, we are absolutely unable to do it. Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for The righteous shall live by faith. ...Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us...
