Human Rights and the Constitution of India The Indian - TopicsExpress

Human Rights and the Constitution of India The Indian constitution was written by imbibing the best of US and Continental European constitutions along with the British parliamentary system of governance and its Magna Carta. It may be argued that the Constitution of Modern India is the best document ever in the history of the world for civil liberties, human rights and the dignity of human life. All of that on paper. Do read the constitution of India- you wlll likely see my point. In practice, in todays India we have no dignity, no civil liberties and no human rights. India has become the rape Centre/Center/Society for all the world to see. This year will test some of these things for the world to observe and come to its own conclusions about India: (1) Prime Minister Narendra Modis personal commitment to lead a government of the constitution. Will his government uphold the Bills of Rights that is explicitely and implicitely contained in that marvelous document? (2) Will the Supreme Court of India, the disignated custodian of the Bill of Rights and the Indian Constitution on behalf of people for the people, side with those people or those in the government and other institutions that trample on them? (3) Will Prime Minister Narendra Modi really work toward building a civic society by replacing the goonda raj that is the order of todays India? Will women once again be able to walk with dignity in the streets of India in daylight? (4) Will the media in India root for the comman man or for the powerful? Will they purvey dignity or prurience? Will they demonstrate responsibility by strongly standing up for the freedom of an individuals rights in a civic society? Will they exhibit religious, caste and gender equality as humans? Someone or other is bound to produce a giant mirror during this year to reflect all of those issues about India to the Indians and to the rest of the world.
