Human perfectionism and infallibility is a pipe dream. A flawless Utopian existence is a fantasy. Many of us have such hopes and dreams that we attach to any number of possible imaginary scenarios for our life. We think, If I just manage to fall in love with the right person, everything will be perfect! If I just win the lottery and become a millionaire, all my problems will be solved....If I can have a family and raise children or find the right career,or become very famous, I will find my perfect happiness!........And on and on go our dreams to somehow escape the difficulty and challenge of life. We want to always have only pleasure and always escape all pain. But this is all a fantasy of the dysfunctional ego, which is all about getting everything to come out on our own personal terms at all times. But life is just not like that, is it? We may wear out most of the above scenarios as possibilities but then a new, very spiritual one can arise to take their place. We think, Oh, if I can only get enlightened I will never have another single human difficulty! All my challenges and difficult emotions will just disappear! But awakening and even enlightenment does not somehow absolve us from the human condition. It just helps us navigate it more skillfully. We come to realize with deep clarity that this phenomenal existence is always going to be imperfect and prone to suffering of one kind or another. Then no matter what happens or doesnt happen, we know that everything will just be OK!
