Humans do weird things but this will not change the definition that the only true and living God has given of what a marriage is that the only true and living God considers to be an acceptable marriage in God’s eyes. According to the newspaper, last Monday in Kandy, Sri Lanka a group “wedding” ceremony was performed for nine pairs of police “sniffer” dogs. The couple’s marriages were registered by an official in the presence of a crowd of veterinary surgeons, medical doctors, top police officers and the public. There was TV coverage. One official objected saying that it would undermine traditional wedding rituals and should be strongly condemned. Others were apparently happy with the proceedings and the resulting “marriages”. In final judgment by God we will all face God’s definition of what God defines as an acceptable marriage and there will be no arguments about it. Only what is acceptable to God will be accepted as acceptable marriage. What the Lord Jesus Christ said is this, “Have you not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5 and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they two shall be one flesh? 6 Therefore they are no more two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Matthew 19:4-6) Leaving God out of marriage will only get us in trouble with God. “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. 14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13-14)
