Humboldt Fence Company, 35, relocates from Arcata to Alton Longtime Humboldt County business Humboldt Fence has relocated from Arcata to 564 Highway 36 in Alton, but will keep the same telephone number (707-822-9511). MARY BULLWINKEL — FOR THE BEACON By Mary Bullwinkel Posted: 12/23/14, 9:28 PM PST | 0 Comments Members of the Fortuna Chamber of Commerce welcomed Humboldt Fence as a new Eel River Valley business, with a ribbon cutting earlier in December. Humboldt Fence Company recently moved its 35-year-old business from Arcata to Alton, and owner Russ Renner is very excited about the new location. Renner bought the piece of property at 564 Highway 36 six years ago, with the business move in mind. “This property is a nice big lot,” Renner said, “with room for inventory and a nice shop.” Renner, a Ferndale resident, is also glad to have a much shorter commute to work. Two Eel River valley construction companies helped make the move to the new location a reality. The warehouse shop was built four years ago by DCI Builders of Ferndale and the new office was built this fall by AF Builders of Fortuna. “I would highly recommend both (companies).” Renner said. “They both do really good work and are great people to work with,” he added. Renner said business has picked up since the move. “The traffic that goes by (on Highway 36) on a daily basis is huge,” he said. “This location offers great exposure (for our business).” Renner bought Humboldt Fence from original owner Howard Goad, 13 years ago. The business was located at 5660 West End Road in Arcata until October of this year. “We were in that previous location for a long time,” Renner said. He said he understands it will take the public time to get used to the idea that Humboldt Fence is now located in Alton. “Anytime you make a move, you take a risk,” Renner said. Humboldt Fence will keep the same telephone number (707-822-9511) so customers will know how to easily contact the business at the new location. Humboldt Fence employs eight people (three crews) and specializes in all types of fencing, as well as automatic gates, and access control. He said 40 percent of the companies work is public works projects for municipalities. “We just finished a big job for Redding last week,” Renner said. His company installed a fence around a Redding Fire Department facility. When Springtime arrives next year, Humboldt Fence crews will travel to Mendocino County to install security fencing and access control at the Airport. Renner said Humboldt Fence does work all over Northern California, and in Humboldt County, about 60 percent of their jobs are Eureka and north.
