Humility and Avoiding Pride We needn’t condemn ourselves for being proud of ascending the mountain toward the knowledge of the Divine. As we look down at the world below we are able to reflect on our progress and encourage those who are lower still. The Reason Pride is so deadly to the climber is the current cliff edge can become the goal. Having only gone half way up the mountain we rejoice in how much greater we are than those below. It therefore halts our progress and at times perhaps we even gloat and go down to tell others about the beautiful heights we reached. When we do this we end the climb and often descend. To maintain humility always spend a great deal of time looking up. Look toward our Ancestors who planted flags further up. Look toward the heavens themselves and contemplate the brilliance of achieving the summit. - Donatus X
