Hundreds of demonstrators took part in a nationwide protest Saturday against police brutality at the same busy Hollywood intersection where an allegedly armed man was fatally shot by LAPD officers the previous night. As part of the event, dubbed “Blackout Hollywood,” protesters peacefully marched down Hollywood Boulevard and staged a die-in at the intersection of Hollywood and Highland, effectively shutting the area down. Many who attended chanted things like “Hands up,” Don’t shoot,” and “I can’t breathe,” refrains heard often at demonstrations in the wake of the recent deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner.
