Hundreds of people Thursday held protests demonstrations at Chattergam area of Central Kashmir after a pregnant woman allegedly died while she was shifted to Srinagar at the eleventh hour. The protestors who later on appeared in Press Enclave Srinagar alleged that the woman died because of the negligence of doctors posted at Chattergam sub-district hospital. Mehmooda wife of Tasaduk Hussain Bhat of Khanda was admitted in Chattergam sub-district hospital on Wednesday morning after she developed labour pains. Locals said that Mehmooda (30) was left unattended for several hours before a team of doctors during late hours suggested that Mehmooda be shifted to Srinagar for treatment. “We asked the doctors posted at the hospital that if they had to recommend Mehmooda to Lal Ded hospital then why did they waste more than nine hours in making the decision,” Rehana, Mehmooda’s sister-in-law said. Shee said that Mehmooda died at LD hospital at around 11 in the night and the entire blame of her death should be put on the doctors responsible for the delay. The protestors demanded action against the erring doctors. Denying the allegations, Chief Medical Officer Budgam Dr Gurjit Singh told CNS that the lady had developed several complications during her pregnancy. He said that Mehmooda was treated well by the doctors of the hospital. Despite repeated attempts, the accused doctor could not be contacted. Meanwhile, MLA Chadoora Javid Mustafa Mir while expressing grief over the demise of the pregnant lady has directed the Director Health Services Kashmir and CMO Budgam to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident so that the family of the deceased get justice.
