Hungry? Friday, November 14 Luke 10: 16 Then he said to the disciples, “Anyone who accepts your message is also accepting me. And anyone who rejects you is rejecting me. And anyone who rejects me is rejecting God, who sent me.” I drive between Arkansas and Mississippi often. These days I almost always carry some leftover food with me and keep it where I can get to it quickly. I carry this food for abandoned dogs wandering the roadside, searching for something to eat. On one trip last month I passed a skinny little black stray rubbishing around just off the road. I was pulling a trailer and I didnt see the little thing in time to stop so I kept going. But I kept feeling sorry for the dog so I pulled over and turned the rig around, planning to go back and give her/him some food. I was also thinking, I might take this one home. When I got back to where the dog was, I pulled off the other side of the road. The dog stopped and looked at me. When I got out he ran a short distance and stopped. I tried talking gently as I crossed the highway but as soon as it was obvious I was headed towards him, he bolted into the woods, completely out of sight. I called for a minute or two but the little dog had run away, apparently more scared than hungry. I left the food and walked away. Shouldnt we treat everyday as a possible opportunity to help someone? I carry food in the seat of my truck when traveling but as I sit here writing this I cant honestly say whether I have any ministry aids in that truck or not. How many times have we tried to offer spiritual food to someone in need? How many times have we had people run away? Heres my point today. That little dog needed help which I was prepared to offer. But because others had hurt her, she rejected and ran away from me. Her lack of trust may well cost her life. People are the same. We can, and should prepare spiritual food to share with those in need but remember two things. If someone rejects the offer and runs away, its not you they are rejecting. God may not have sent you to feed them. He may have sent you to help prepare them to accept the food from someone else. Think about it and have a great day. Oh yeah, pack a little extra food today. Its all about Jesus!
