Hunt on for 6th gunman: Army SHABIR IBN YUSUF Srinagar, Aug 31: Day after the killing of five militants in Ganderbal District of Central Kashmir, Army Saturday said that they killed five more militants while foiling an infiltration bid in Tangdhar Sector in frontier district of Kupwara. The militants were killed by 5/5 Gurkhah Regiment in 36-hour long operation near Eagle Post at the Line of Control (LoC). Addressing a press conference here, Brigadier General Staff (BGS) 15 Corps, Brigadier G S Sangah said that the operation is going on as the group of militants comprised of six people and only five bodies have been recovered. He said that based on specific intelligence, soldiers deployed in Tangdhar Sector launched a counter-infiltration operation on August 29. "The militant group was spotted one and half kilometer inside our territory," Brigadier Sangah said adding that the group comprised of 6 militants. "They were challenged and the militants were killed in two spells of exchange of fire. The combing operation is in progress in the area. We have recovered 6 AK 56 Rifles and other ammunition," he said. "The operation is going on. Terrain is difficult. We are trying our best to locate the sixth one," he said. He said that preliminary investigations have revealed that slain militants belonged to Lashker-e-Toiba (LeT). "We are trying to ascertain the identity of the slain militants," he said. An Army spokesman said here that GOC 15 Corps Lt Gen Gurmit Singh commended the soldiers and commanders for the professionalism and grit resulting in surgical counter-infiltration operation. He also conveyed special appreciation to the intelligence agencies for the effective intelligence grid, the spokesman added. Earlier Army had said that they have killed 19 militants in different operations on LoC in last two months. Almost all the encounters took place in Kupwara district of north Kashmir.
