Hurricane Julio continues to move far to the east-northeast of the Big Island of Hawaii,centered at 11 a.m HST (5 p.m. EDT) about 425 miles east-northeast of Hilo, Hawaii. Julio is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph and this motion is expected to continue for the next 48 hours. On this forecast track, Julio will pass about 250 miles northeast of Maui on Sunday. Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph - a Category 2 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Winds Scale. Gradual weakening during the next 48 hours is forecast but Julio is expected to remain a hurricane through at least Sunday night. Swells generated by hurricane Julio will produce large surf along most north and east facing shores of the main Hawaiian islands for the next few days. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect, but interests in the Hawaiian Islands should monitor the progress of Julio over the weekend.
