Hurricane Sandy could have been stopped with old car tires? One - TopicsExpress

Hurricane Sandy could have been stopped with old car tires? One of the things I love about my job is getting calls from the media every time someone proposes a new method to control weather. Ironically, no one ever thinks of the simplest and most cost effective ideas, to simply improve infrastructure, improve building codes, add seas walls, and stop rebuilding near danger zones, especially hurricane prone areas. I do admire the imagination of those who come up with these projects, no matter how wacky or ingenious. Some work, but most dont. The idea of robbing hurricanes of energy by using old car tires to create heat-exchanging tubes in the ocean has been around for a few years, but has recently re-surfaced. (Pun intended). You dont have to be a scientist to see the problems with such a project. 1: How do you move the devices in a timely manner to cover one or multiple events? 2: What about the mega-wave action ripping the devices apart? 3: How would you cover the Gulf and Atlantic (its a massive area). 4: Who pays for this? The initial cost and maintenance would be astronomical. 5: Im not sure the heat exchange would actually lower the temperatures that much. And finally, what problems would forcing water into the depths of the ocean create? What do you all think? dvice/archives/2012/11/hurricane_sandy_1.php
