Hurricanes land huge coup with Englishmans signature Hobart Hurricanes have today confirmed the signing of England T20 international Alex Hales for season four of the KFC T20 Big Bash League. After discussions between Hobart and Hales’ management, the opening batsman recently put pen to paper, which will see him in purple for BBL|04. The 25-year old big-hitting right- hander has an impressive T20 record, averaging upwards of 30 at a strike rate of 140.34 in his 107 matches. Hales has also played 32 T20 Internationals for England, and in the recent ICC World T20 tournament in Bangladesh, he became the first Englishman to register an T20 international century, blasting 116 not out from 64 balls in a scintillating display against eventual champions Sri Lanka. Having played for Adelaide Strikers in BBL|03 and a handful of games for Melbourne Renegades in BBL|02, Hales is no stranger to the competition. He gave Hobart fans a taste of his big- hitting ability at Blundstone Arena last year during the rain-affected match against the Strikers. Hobart Hurricanes coach Damien Wright said he was extremely excited to have another world-class T20 batsman in the side. “Alex is a fantastic addition to our squad for this season and our members and supporters will no doubt be thrilled to see him put on the purple,” Wright said. Hales was also full of praise for his new coach, saying he was delighted to be joining the Hurricanes and is looking forward to working with Wright during the upcoming season. “Damien has an excellent reputation as a coach and I am excited to be playing for one of the strongest teams in the Big Bash League,” Hales said. “Hopefully I can contribute to the team going all the way this year after making the final last season.” The Hobart Hurricanes squad for BBL| 04 now contains nine members, with another eight domestic contracts and one international contract still to be finalised.
