Hurricanes open with a win One down ... so many to go. All the Hamilton Hurricanes 12U Blue All-Stars care about at the Babe Ruth World Series is the game at hand. Theres really no other way to have success with 22 teams playing in the standout field in Alachua, Florida. Friday morning, the HGSA squad got off to a successful start with a 19-0, four-inning triumph over Creeks Babe Ruth from Florida as all but one Hurricane collected at least one hit and winning pitcher Kaylee Whittaker, Gracie Gaskill and Haley Lestician combined on a no-hitter. The Canes (65-8-2) scored 11 times in the top of the first inning - just as they did in the first inning of the championship game at the Middle Atlantic Regional on July 20 - to pull away to the win. Whittaker was the game MVP for Hamilton, going 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and four RBIs as well as collecting five strikeouts among the six outs she recorded on the mound. Nicole Cerasi (3-for-4, three runs, RBI), Ciara Donaldson (2-for-2, run, two RBIs), Christina Weil (two runs, two RBIs) and Natalie Kozemchak (three runs) helped lead the balanced offensive attack. The Hurricanes will next play Prairie Village, Kentucky, at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
