Hurriyat Conference (G) has strongly castigated and condemned the authorities for imposing stringent restrictions on its chairman Syed Ali Geelani in the holy month of Ramadan. In a statement Hurriyat (G) spokesperson Ayaz Akbar said, “After Geelani delivered speech in Quran Conference at Jamia Masjid Hyderpora, Police virtually locked his residence from outside and all those who come here are examined strictly. Geelani had planned to interact people and to offer prayers on the eve of Jumat- ul-Vida and Eid prayers. However, it looks like that administration won’t allow and provide opportunity to him to offer religious obligations.” He said that Hurriyat on July 28 had called a Quran Conference “but police foiled and banned the Conference and latter Tehreek Hurriyat decided to conduct the conference in Jamia Masjid Hyderpora.” “In the meantime Geelani came out of his residence and before the police could understand the situation and try to stop him he boarded the vehicle and drove straight to mosque and presided over the conference. Though after the conference was concluded a peaceful procession was organised and dispersed without creating any law and order problem for authorities,” he claimed. The spokesman said that the peaceful procession was an ample reply and provided a sufficient proof against the allegation leveled by Omar Abdullah wherein he had said that wherever Geelani goes, the incidents of stone pelting occurs. “It is chain reaction from angry mob when police unleashes terror without any provocation After Geelani led the peaceful procession, Police in order to curtail his liberty detained him and additional force constantly watch the residence and its approach,” he said. Hurriyat (G) has expressed hope that keeping in view the Jumat ul Vida and Eid ul Fitr, authorities would allow Geelani to offer special obligatory prayers.
