Hurriyat (M) welcomes Chinese foreign ministry statement on KashmirSrinagar, Jan 20 : While welcoming the recent statement of Chinese foreign ministry that Kashmir issue should be solved on urgent basis, APHC spokesman said that peace and stability in south Asiawas linked with the solution of Kashmir issue. He saidsuch international statements reflect that there was a growing feeling in the global community that lingering Kashmir issue continue to pose threat to peace in the region apart from increasing the confrontation between India and Pakistan which can turn the situation explosive anytime thereby plunging the future of South Asia into uncertainty and insecurity.In a statement issued to KNS the spokesman said that Kashmir dispute was the major cause of confrontation between nuclear armed nations India and Pakistan, adding, the Chinese reservation over the unresolved dispute were legitimate since this internationally recognized dispute continue to be on the map since past 68 years, it has been the sources of three wars between the two nations, and a major cause of bloodshed and confrontation on borders.Before, the spokesman said that UN secretary general Ban Ki Moon has also stressed upon the resolution of dispute, but added the leadership of India has always adopted an unrealistic attitude to the International demands.Spokesman said that India should realize the historical and political realties attached to the Kashmir dispute and that it could not turn away its eyes from the international demands for long. (KNS)Sonth’ from Feb 13Srinagar, Jan 20 (KNS): Sonth the Jammu and Kashmir Literature Cultural Festival 2015, is being organized from February 13 to 15 at Srinagar. Sonthis being organized by Lehar, an NGO, in collaboration with the J&K Tourism Department and J&K Academy for Art, Culture and Languages.The three-day festival will be organized at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC), Srinagar. It will be inaugurated by Governor N.N. Vohra.Sonth will focus on the changing life and times of Jammu and Kashmir as reflected in art, literature, media, cinema and other creative works. Leading intellectuals and opinion-makers are participating in Sonth, along with authors, writers, film-makers, actors and other artistes.According to a statement issued to KNS Bashir Assad,Chairman of NGO Lehar and one of the members of the organizing committee said that the focus of the festival is on the contemporary writings in Kashmir, folk, theater, art and much more. It is very low-budget event, which does not involve any major financial expenditure. Doordarshan Kendra Srinagar and All India Radio Srinagar are also expected to support the event, he said.Assad said that Sonth is an endeavor to reflect the new writings and art of Jammu and Kashmir. “The point is not whether Sonth is political or apolitical. The point is that Sonth must be true to the land where it is taking shape. It must reflect its emergingart and literature,” he said.After the inaugural session on February 13, the event is spread over four business sessions. The themes of the business sessions are ‘Women and youth in literature, art and alternate media of J&K’,‘Islam in the Kashmiri ethos’, ‘Contemporary art movement in J&K and its challenges’, and ‘The expression of protest in literature, art and alternate media of J&K’. Each session will begin with a beautiful cultural presentation.After this, the panelists will lead the discussion, moderated by the anchor. After the initial phase of discussion, session will be open for audience interaction.Assad said that in our contemporary times there has not been any inclusive literature festival that would reflect the writings have emerged from the state, viz. Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh. The festival will also promote the culture of Jammu and Kashmir, Mr Assad added. Assad said that the organizing committee of ‘Sonth’ comprises distinguished Kashmiris who have contributed to literature and artof the region, and eminent Kashmiris from other walks of life. “Leading writers of Kashmir have welcomed the idea of organizing the literature festival to highlight path-breaking writings from thestate,” Mr Assad said.“For the literature festival, we are inviting authors,writers and film-makers, actors and other artists from Jammu and Kashmir, and from other parts of the country, whose works have reflected the life and times of this region,” Mr Assad added.The panel of each business session shall comprise litterateurs, opinion makers and artistes of high merit. Veer Munshi, a Kashmiri artiste of international repute, will put up an installation at SKICC which will reflect the spirit of Sonth. Live demonstrations of the various arts and crafts of J&K will be organized at SKICC as the ancillary activities of Sonth. These will be participatory in nature for tourists.
