Hurst, Hassocks and Ditchling U3A (University of the Third Age) September meeting on Friday 6th September will be held at Ditchling Village Hall between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. We welcome a speaker from South East Water whose talk is titled “On Tap, or How Water Reaches Your Home." On Monday 14th October we shall be meeting at Adastra Hall, again between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., and look forward to a talk about Magnus Volk and the Volk’s railway on Brighton seafront by Ian Gledhill. Refreshments will be available at both meetings. Members pay £1 admission, non members may join at the door. As we approach the end of our first year, we have an interesting day planned for Friday November 8th when our first Member’s Conference will be held at Adastra Hall from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a chance for members to review the first year and shape our future. There are now over twenty study groups up and running covering a wide range of interests: book club, bridge, bridge for beginners, chess group, computer studies, crochet & knitting, current affairs, digital photography, flower arranging, gardening, genealogy, German, local history, music appreciation, natural history walks, patchwork, play reading, recorder group, saxophone, shared reading, Spanish, stitching, Sunday lunch group, Twentieth Century poetry, water colour art, women’s studies and a writing group. If there’s nothing there to interest you, why not think of forming a new group? Come along to the conference and find out what’s involved in starting a group and what training may be available.
