Hurtful to hear? How about its hurtful to experience racism; its hurtful to be victimized by racial profiling, harassment and brutality; its hurtful to be tear gassed and shot with rubber bullets simply for exercising ones constitutional rights; its hurtful to be lied to in the aftermath of witnessing a son and a brother executed in the street; hurtful to witness his character posthumously assassinated by the very police assigned to investigate his death; its hurtful to be a young black person in 2014 America and see statistics which say the number of black people murdered by police every three days is comparable to the number of black citizens lynched during Reconstruction and Jim Crow; its hurtful to have to explain white supremacy to willfully ignorant white people; its hurtful to look in the eyes of your son or daughter, niece or nephew, god-daughter or godson and realize the same racial hatred which has accounted for the scars youve suffered in your life hasnt been resolved, and that there is nothing within your own power you can do to ensure they - the people most precious to you, who youd give your very life for - wont suffer the same indignities youve experienced. That is what real hurt is. That is what real hurt feels like. Chief Tom Jacksons bullshit is exactly that, bullshit. He wants his old comfortable life back. A life where discrimination could occur without an international news media spotlight. A life where he can tell his officers to treat everyone like they would their own mother without doing a damn thing to ensure it ever happens. No Tom Jackson, you cant have your old life back. Feel that fear blacks experience every day. The nervousness while walking down a city block or riding in a car at night. Get acquainted with the anxiety of doing routine things like shopping while having to wonder whether someone will see you and run up on you with guns in tow. Youre a marked man Tom Jackson, and while I wish harm on no person, I dont have the least bit of concern for you or your safety. You condoned and facilitated the erosion of countless black citizens sense of safety in Ferguson for years, while allowing your own officers to prey upon them day and night. Get a taste of how it feels to be hunted. Good luck.
