Hydra Dominatus: truly for the Emperor Socrates was once given - TopicsExpress

Hydra Dominatus: truly for the Emperor Socrates was once given two equally horrible options, exile or death, the choice he made has had a great impact on western civilization. It is fitting that that when we examine the Alpha legion we can see a similar philosophy in play. I want you all to first consider the Alpha legion as a cohesive unit, they are quite literally a hydra, cut off one head two more shall take their place. The idea of the individual was superseded by the need of the group, resulting in a majority of the legion attempting to look like each other. Even the greeting itself shows unity “I am Alpharius” is more than simply a way to confuse outsiders, it is the soul of the legion. In many ways the Alpha legion is the Emperor’s trump card, one he didn’t even know he played, for those familiar with the heresy novel Legion , we know that information regarding the traitors actions were delivered to Alpharius and Omegon. The options given to them were simple fight for the loyalists and condemn mankind to a slow extinction, and the galaxy to suffering, or fight for the warmaster and see humanity burn away in the span of one hundred years. A human mind cannot process such action, but as it was stated, the Alpha legion was always pragmatic, capable of seeing the long road, and though the choice was horrific, sparring the galaxy millennia of conflict seemed the most logical choice. Is it truly that simple though? doubtful. You must consider the warcry of the Alpha legion “for the Emperor” ten millennia later this remains a simple fact. The twin Primarch genuinely believed that they were acting as the Emperor would in their place. We know that the Emperor has been alive since the earliest civilizations of mankind, we also know he was not above actions that could be considered reprehensible, the culling of the Thunder warriors, the elimination of wildly divergent genetic offshoots of humanity during the great crusade. A being that surpasses humanity would not blink at eliminating entire worlds if it would benefit his birth species in the long run. Alpharius and Omegon simply took the Emperors philosophy and brought it to its natural conclusion, if humanity is the battery for the powers of the warp than it needs to be removed. The question becomes what was it that made the Alpha legion such a lethal force, the simple answer is its nature. Alpharius developed an approach to warfare that did not simply rely on Astartes and dramatic shows of force. He and his twin used every means possible to win wars, be it sabotage, human agents or simply act’s that the other legions simply could not understand. The nature of warfare is that not every conflict can be won the same way and the Alpha legion attempted to prove that relying on a codified system of war was borderline idiotic, after all if the opponent knows what actions you can take they will be able to plan against them. So how do you plan to fight an opponent who not only can hide in plain sight but use your strengths against you. The long view, the Cabal gave the Alpha legion Pandoras box and forced them to open it. Yet something that was not considered was the uniqueness of the Primarch, a being that was split in two, one soul in two bodies. This is a unique occurrence among the Primarchs and in many ways a fortunate one. Alpharius and Omegon function as their own council. Options are given and responded to far better than a single individual and whereas his brothers would second guess each other Alpharius was able to discuss strategy with his twin and gain access to options that may have been hidden even from his mind. We must ask ourselves, are the Alpha Legion and the twins traitors? The answer is the Hydra itself, for every secret we uncover less things make sense. The belief in the ultimate solution is what drove Alpharius and Omegon to take such drastic action. The future they attempted to avoid came to pass, yet it is somehow flawed, the cabals vision was distorted and the choice became moot, all that matters now is the mission. Hydra Dominatus, they strike with many heads yet act as one.
