I-10 CLOSURE THIS WEEKEND: Here’s the latest on what TxDOT has - TopicsExpress

I-10 CLOSURE THIS WEEKEND: Here’s the latest on what TxDOT has scheduled for the Ralph Fair Road/I-10 intersection. Keep in mind, this is all weather permitting, so check back here for updates. After Sundt Construction crews get traffic switched from the old overpass to the new bridge - scheduled for Wednesday and the early morning hours Thursday - they will demolish the old bridge. That work will start 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, and continue into the early morning hours Monday, Dec. 8. The demolition work requires a complete shutdown of all I-10 lanes, along with the Ralph Fair Road bridge. Crews will haul in dirt and sand to create a soft bed several feet deep under the bridge deck to protect the I-10 road surface from falling concrete chunks and other debris. The agency warns motorists NOT to expect an early completion of the weekend work as was the case in two earlier closures since the roadway cleanup will take every bit of the time scheduled. Detours will be the same as the two earlier closures, with Ralph Fair Road (FM 3351) traffic diverted to Old Fred Road, and east- and west-bound I-10 traffic funneled onto the feeder roads, around the demolition site and back onto the interstate. Detours will be signed, and off-duty police officers will control traffic. Expect long delays or plan other routes if possible.
