I-65 Update: SB Closed from Taylorsville (Exit 76) to Seymour (Exit 51) SEYMOUR, Ind. – The southbound lanes of Interstate 65 remain closed between the U.S. 31 exit for Edinburgh and Taylorsville (Exit 76) and U.S. 50 in Seymour (Exit 50). I-65 northbound is open in this area, but motorists should reduce their speed according to conditions and anticipate delays. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is assisting first responders in cleaning up a tractor trailer crash just south of S.R. 11 (Exit 55) near Jonesville. INDOT anticipates the crash will be cleared in a few hours, at which point I-65 will reopen. INDOT and Indiana State Police districts in southern Indiana closed portions of I-65 after 9 a.m. this morning due to crashes and low visibility. As of 12 noon, Bartholomew and Jackson counties along the I-65 corridor have declared travel watches advising essential travel only. Further south, Scott County has declared a travel warning limiting all but emergency travel. INDOT continues to plow and treat I-65 southbound as traffic allows in order to open the highway as soon as possible. Drivers play a role in keeping the highways open and safe for other travelers by making room for INDOT’s yellow plow trucks so they may clear the roads. Strong winds resulted in blowing snow, reduced visibility and colder temperatures. Local INDOT plow crews will manage the interstates, U.S. highways and state routes to prevent snow from blowing across the highway and sticking. With falling temperatures, salt and other melting agents will have to work harder to lower the temperatures at which the accumulation melts. Know before you go by visiting indot.carsprogram.org or dialing 800-261-ROAD for up-to-the-minute road conditions and closures.
