I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP TO SUPPORT BILL 24. WE ARE TRYING TO GET SOME CHANGES TO THE AGRICULTURAL LAND RESERVE TO IMPROVE LAND USE PLANNING IN OUR REGION. THIS ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES. PLEASE HELP US BY E MAILING YOUR SUPPORT. A SAMPLE E MAIL IS INCLUDED AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS E MAIL. THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE ALREADY SENT E MAILS. PLEASE READ THIS AND HELP US BY SENDING AN E MAIL. THANK YOU. Our society “Citizens for Agricultural Land Reform” as well as many other organizations have been working on getting changes to the Agricultural Land Commission Act for more than 4 years. The BC Liberals have introduced a Bill in the Legislature to start this process. Specifically, the Bill provides for zone 1 (Okanagan, Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island with the same provisions as there is now) and zone 2 for the remainder of the province with modified provisions to reflect a more holistic approach to land use planning. The Bill will be coming up for second reading in the next few weeks. We are asking you to write by e mail or letter in support of BILL 24 to: Minister of Agriculture, Norm Letnick Minister Bill Bennett MLA Mike Bernier MLA Pat Pimm and Premier Christy Clark Paul Gevatkoff in support of the Government,s decision to modernize this 40 year old legislation. Fort St. John BC V1J 3Y7 Our specific concerns are: • Reinstate the quarter section as a standard size agriculture parcel • Eliminate restrictions on farm families to subdivide parcels for succession planning, family members and retirement purposes. • Allow subdivisions on land that is non farmable due to topographical restraints such as roads, railroads, streams etc. • Expand the permissible uses on farm land to enable consideration of all factors including social, economic, environmental etc. in the planning process. • reduce administrative costs by localizing decision making. Time is of the essence therefore e mails are preferred. Example of an e mail: My name is _______________ and I reside in _______________ BC. I strongly support your initiative to change the law around the ALR. The law is 40 years old and must be updated to recognize changes in BC. Thank you for dealing with this issue. This is an example only. The note does not have to be lengthy however one can elaborate more if they wish.
