I AM BACK ON TRACK Today, I thought that I might not be able to - TopicsExpress

I AM BACK ON TRACK Today, I thought that I might not be able to exercise. I found myself so sleepy in church and could hardly keep my eyes open. Could my tiredness be from too much exercise, such as yard work and walking 3 miles the day before? Well, I had to figure a way to get my workout in today. My plan was to go home after church and take a nap. Don’t laugh, it’s allowed. After all, I’ll be 74 in 2 months! About 45 minutes after lunch, I took a nap. What a difference. I felt so much better. Before I tell you what I did, I want to challenge you if you are over 60. I challenge you to get out there and do something. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you did and how you felt. I did not start out walking 3 miles from the beginning. My start was very slow – 15 minutes 2-3 times a week. It has progressed over the years. As we get older, it takes longer to get started but once you get there you will not want to turn back. You will notice the increased energy. OK, here’s my report for today. I can’t promise you that I can keep up this pace but I am going to try. I didn’t want to walk outside today so I went to my fitness center to use the treadmill. My goal was 3 miles in 60 minutes without running. I set the machine for 60 minutes and after 10 minutes I wondered if I had made a mistake. My last treadmill workout was only 45 minutes. OK, no turning back. The machine is set and I am moving. My first mile clocked in under 20 minutes. Not bad but also not my best. Now I was faced with walking the 2nd mile even faster than the first. I don’t remember the time for the second mile but I do know that my 3rd mile clocked in at 53.34 and at 60 minutes I had walked 3.31 miles. How exciting that was. I now know that I can go a little slower to make the 3 miles. I have some breathing room. Next came my strength training for about 20 minutes. We have to build muscle as we grow older or we will lose it. We need the muscles for everyday life. I am only working my upper body with weights. My walking takes care of my lower body. Many leg and hip muscles are developed with speed walking. Please don’t forget your challenge. Hopefully, I’ll be posting again tomorrow. Maybe an early workout is in store for me. I might even break up my routine and split my hour between walking and working on the elliptical. Until tomorrow – Blessings to you all.
