I AM HOME, I AM HOME, I AM HOME!!!!! I just spent the last - TopicsExpress

I AM HOME, I AM HOME, I AM HOME!!!!! I just spent the last several hours out back with my family, laughing and joking with each other, enjoying each others company and loving on each other. Now, I am upstairs in my own bed, resting comfortably. Well, as comfortable as I can at this point. It turned out coming up the stairs was really a lot more difficult and exhausting than I had imagined it would be due to the nerve damage I suffered during my surgery. But I went into the surgery knowing one of the main risks in this surgery was that I could lose anywhere from some of my sensation and mobility in my left leg/residual limb all the way up to never being able to use that leg again. Thankfully I was blessed that I only suffered minor to moderate nerve damage to the leg and lower left abdomen area and it might not even be permanent nerve damage. I will have an in home physical therapist who will come into the house three times a week to work with me to strengthen that leg and try to get some of that mobility back. That will probably start within the next week. In spite of the nerve damage I can still walk with my prosthesis, but My stump is so weak, I am back to using a walker again, at least for the time being. There is just so much weakness in that stump now I am having a really difficult time fully operating my prosthesis. So to be safe I will go back to using my walker until I regain some of my strength back. I still have to undergo at least two months of heavy I.V. antibiotics and I will have an in home health care nurse who will come twice a week to monitor my PICC line and make sure there are no problems with it. Robin will once again become my full time nurse while I convalesce and recuperate. She will do all my I.V. changes and wound care and take care of all my other medical needs for at least the next two months; just as she has for nearly nine years now. I am so blessed and fortunate to have a wife who is so willing and capable of taking care of all my needs without ever complaining and doing it all with absolute love for me and for us. When I do need or want to get up I have a really nice, high tech and even (mostly) comfortable new back brace. I already wore it today while sitting in the backyard with the family for several hours. I never could have done that with any of my other previous back braces. But the only real news of any true consequence right now is that I AM BACK HOME and surrounded by LOVE!!!!!
