I AM NOT DESTINED TO WIN AWARDS Theres an advert on GTV appealing to people to vote for me so that I can win an award at the Ghana Television awards. Friends keep calling me to ask for a confirmation of my code. But the honest truth is that I do not know the code. The fact simply is that, I am not destined to win awards so I never look forward to winning one. You see, I started school at the prestigious St Martin De Porres school in Dansoman. Whilst there, even though all my classmates attested to the fact that when it came to the English Language subject, I had no challenger, I never won an award for my performances in ENGLISH until I left that school. At the Presbyterian School in Tamale where I stayed for just a year, again, among all my classmates some of who have become businessmen, doctors and PHD holders, the verdict was that ENGLISH was my colony. Despite the acknowledgements, I never won an award there too. When I proceeded to AMASS in Kumasi, I was never second to anyone in ENGLISH and in LITERATURE lessons. AMA Boahemma was the one who always took the shine from me by scoring very high marks in French and maths. There too, despite the acknowledgements, I never won any award for coming first in English and literature. I was even made assistant school prefect for my perceived prowess in the queens tongue. At the university of Ghana, Samuel Issa beat me to it on almost all the occasions I came close to being recognised as a good student. When I was doing my MPHIL studies, Isaac Ainooson and Eunice Ankomah always overshadowed me. In my line of work as a journalist, I have done several stories for which every year, many people would call me up and say that story is an award winning story, keep it up. However, I have never won any award from the GJA. Furthermore, every year, since 2010 till date, I have been nominated for several awards by different groups, but when the D-day arrives, my name is always missing from the list of winners. So you see, I am not destined to win awards. Please dont vote for me. Vote for those colleagues of mine who are likely to win. As for me, my gratification stems from knowing that I make an impact on someone anytime I do my job.
