I AM UAB: Above all what I want for UAB is strong leadership that can continue it as a quality and renowned medical school and research institution, and continue its undergraduate program growth and improvement. During my life it has transformed from a school I knew as a graduate and night class school (where those who didnt have the grades, money or other personal life situation to allow them to go off to school went), into a beautiful campus that students from all over the region, country and world choose to attend. I obtained my fourth degree from UAB, and enjoyed it as much as any if the four Universities I have attended. I dont know all the numbers or facts, but as an alumni and citizen of Birmingham, I do know that enough of a lack of effective leadership has been shown by Dr. Watts to know he should step down. And enough to decide that UAB should be free of the U of A Trustees. Its not about sports, its about leadership! Leadership that places UAB and its students and alumni first and Birmingham and its residents second. And leadership that if it errs in the handling if something, can at least find its way out of the mess, rather than wallow around in it! Dr Watts attempt to recover looks like some one who has no concept of public perception, or how to interact with people outside the medical school!
