I BETTER SEE YALL UCLA FOLX OUT HERE TODAY The organizers of the event refused to allow students to voice their concerns about Napolitanos presence during the event and refused to even mention her record as head of DHS because it would embarass her. Not only that but they condenscingly attempted to dissuade us from having a protest. WE WILL NOT ALLOW OUR VOICES TO BE SILENCED. Janet Napolitano should not be a featured speaker in an event titled Making Education Work for Latinas. As head of the Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano showed a complete disregard for human rights and civil rights by instituting policies that resulted in widespread racial profiling, mass incarceration, criminalization and deportation of millions of innocent people One of the communities that was most directly affected was the Latina/o community. The program, wrongly named, Secure Communities resulted in the separation of millions of families, the vast majority of which were Latino/a. In fact, millions of Latinas who are pursuing an education may have had a parent deported, unjustly detained or may live in fear of deportation because of Napolitanos past actions. Therefore, Napolitanos presence at this event, and her appointment as UC president are wrong and should not be condoned by those who claim to be trying to create progress in our communities. https://facebook/events/516364615137580/?ref=25
