I Believe The Bible: I believe that the Bible is inspired, and it - TopicsExpress

I Believe The Bible: I believe that the Bible is inspired, and it contains the purpose, and plan of God for all people. I acknowledge that there are undeniable challenges with some of the language translations. I have to acknowledge that because of these challenges many things have been misinterpreted. However, the problem of mistranslation is to be expected when dealing with multiple eastern, ancient languages with many dialects, and euphamisms like Arabic, Hebrew, and Greek. The time span that the Bible covers also creates a challenge in understanding some things. Its difficult for those raised in the 21st century to understand life in the 20th century--just 1 century; imagine trying to understand thousands of centuries! It is a huge challenge! Even in our English language; 50 years ago, if you said iPhone you would not be expected to be talking about a cellular smartphone. Instead, your audience would expect you to say a sentence like, I phoned you earlier today. Or just a few years ago if you said, I just LOVE my Blackberry a cell phone would NOT be what you were referring to. Instead, your audience would infer that you were referring to literal berries, or maybe youd be referring to a dark-skinned brother around my complexion. These are normal barriers that we face when trying to interpret a different language, a different culture, and a different time period. I make mention of this because there are many who have crept in unaware in Christian leadership whose aim is to discredit the validity of The Holy Scriptures. If you are not guarded, and know how to respond to those who try to cynically, and systematically sabatoge the validity of the Bible, then you may find that your own faith sabotaged. This systematic onslaught of Biblical validity is not a new attack; but Im finding that more, and more of Christian leaders/Pastors, totally reject that The Bible is an inspired book. I heard the following story from my Daddy many years ago: A traditional Congregational church has just hired a young Pastor who just recently graduated from the most prestigious Seminary. While preaching to this mostly elderly congregation, he very condescendingly began to discredit the Biblical account of the miracle of Red sea. He, very scholarly explained that the Red Sea was very shallow in some places, maybe about knee-deep if that much, and that it could have been very easy for a group of people to cross the sea. As taught, the Seminary graduate paused for a dramatic effect. After a very tensed, and cold response from the audience, one of the oldest Mothers of the church started praising God at the top of her voice. What a miracle!! What a miracle! Praise God, what a miracle!! The young Minister did not expect this reaction, so he asked, What do you mean miracle? I just explained that it wasnt a miracle for the children of Israel to cross the Red Sea! It was quite doable without a miracle, he said quite defiantly. But the old Mother said, Im not talking about them walking across the Red Sea. The real miracle is when God drowned Pharoahs army, and all his horses in shallow, knee-deep water!!!!!!! I still believe the Bible! It has withstood the most intense scrutiny for centuries, and has held its integrity! I will continue to draw inspiration, and strengthen my faith with The Bible!
