I CANT CONFIRM THIS, as it was given to me by somewhat dubious sources, but it seems as if BEIJING WILL LOWER THE TENSION IN HONG KONG SOON. My sources told me that Chinas leaders realize now that they have to propose decent candidates for the next election rather than obvious stooges. Without backing down from their stance that they will control the nominations for the next election, and thereby saving face, the could sweeten the deal by increasing the suffering for the people of Hong Kong. Sorry, thats a typo. I meant suffrage. So, rather than nominate a kickback-prone apparatchnik who has an illegal basement man-cave under his building that he foolishly tried to blame on his wife, the CCP is going to vet candidates that it thinks might win in a popular vote. Yes, I know this sounds preposterous, given The Square and Chinese overall bad manners toward and in Hong Kong. However, Beijing is desperate because the domestic economy is failing fast. They already throw money down a hole trying to make friends with the natives in Xinjiang and Tibet. By that standard, theyre not doing particularly well in Taiwan. All that said, I was really amazed by the list of candidates that the CCP might approve of: Option 1: Bring Chris Patten back. He was the last leader under the UK oversight and is highly respected. His election could bring a period of stability while the CCP and HKs leaders work out the final details of the transition. Option 2: In an effort to promote the arts and prove what a total farce that politics really is, as well as provide a dark horse candidate with little chance of winning, my sources say that they will also agree to nominate saxophonist Kenny G! Like I said, thats unconfirmed. Option 3 is far more interesting. The CCP could permit Ma Ying-Jeo to run in HK, where one of his daughters lives, after his reign of error ends in Taiwan. I know this all sounds very farfetched, but I assure you that my friend really thinks that this is whats happening on the inside on the inside of the Red Palace. No, seriously, I made all that shit up in an attempt to be funny. Hope it worked. ;-)
