I DID see red! Years ago, while living on the river, I was sitting on the front porch watching an incredibly mean thunderstorm. Quick, powerful, sharp, jagged, blue lightening, and booms of thunder were the norm. Not scared, too excited to be scared. Until I heard the weirdest boom of all a split millisecond before the red flash. I dived into the house quicker than a snake can crawl in his hole. Thought a sailboat at the camp had been hit. Even called them but nope, nothing was damaged at the camp. Couldnt figure it out until about three days later when I noticed a tree in the yard was turning brown. Oh My Gosh! Less than thirty steps from where I had been sitting, the lightening had struck a pine tree! There was no blue flash but a red flash. All these years Ive wondered about that red flash. After watching this video and seeing how close the camera is to the tree, I understand somewhat the physics of the blue flash vs the red one. Even more surprising was not so much the red flash that made me take cover so quickly but realizing just how CLOSE the strike was to me, where I was, sitting in the dark on the front porch. Wow!!!
