~ “I DON’T LOVE YOU ANY-MORE” ~she blurted. Shocked as he was by his own audacity he did notrealize how the heat of the moment had compelledher to vent out her buried emotions. On hearing this, he was completely dismayed; he stood there gazing at her, his eyes looking at her incredulously, asking amillion questions. He was living his worst fearednightmare. He knew it was coming, he knew it verywell. The way things were going, this situation wasinevitable, but he wasnt prepared for it yet. His lovefor her, did not allow him to look at the negatives, he was living in a bubble, trying to separate wit from fancy, he was dreamer while she was a realist; theywere like chalk and cheese. He knew at the back ofhis head that they had to part ways someday, butthat day seemed to be a distant reality from the timehe was living in. They met 2 months ago. He was aware of the factthat she was the reach-er, while he was the settler. According to her, he deserved someone muchbetter, but she was too selfish to let him go to findthat “someone better”. Her insecurities kept ongnawing her already corroded confidence. To say that she loved him was an understatement; she adored him to such a point where she could not lovehim anymore. He was now her GOD, and she was justa smitten devotee. He too loved her, but feared herobsession towards him. He did not wish to be anobject of worship, (considering that he was an agnostic). He only desired to be loved, not admired. Love was something he was deprived off since hisearly childhood; his wry smile bore a testimony ofthe ghost of his past. As a teenager, he eschewedfrom falling in love, because this whole conceptbaffled him. Love seemed to be a quagmire of conflicting emotions, which weighed him down. However, all this was before he met her; she was theone who reinstated his faith in love, she made himbelieve that love was cosmic and was beyond one’scontrol. She was the balancing force in his rough, rugged life, and together they found their romantic Utopia. Like all things love too comes with an expiration date. No! It’s not eternal; it may be cosmic but not eternal. Love dies with the people, and sometimes, it diesbefore the people. And that is exactly whathappened here. She fell out of being loved. The guilt was killing her, but she was not brave enough tobattle her own conscience. The internal turmoilwithin her took a toll on her behaviour andcharacteristics. Perplexed as she was, one day herangst forced her to voice this deeply embeddedsecret. He had perceived that the love was long gone. He shed bitter tears seeing her engrossed in thoughts, contemplating about the future, but he didnot have the heart to let her go and live peacefully. He was stuck, stuck in this hellish heaven where hedwelld with his God. After this disclosure about herall he could do was to cry, he bawled like a kid trying not to let go off his favourite car, but it was time tosee the reality, to let the bubble pop and face themusic. How he wished he could just run away fromthis epiphany, he could see his whole world cometumbling down and could do absolutely nothingabout it. P.S. it is not necessary that all love stories need to have an ending. Some love stories, happy or sad areleft midway without a full stop signifying itstermination. Let there be loose ends, the end product may not be perfect, but perhaps, that is the beauty of it. : ) ~akshat
