I Doubt It Dont be afraid, Zechariah; your prayer has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear you a son, and you are to give him the name John. He will a be a joy and delight to you, and many will rejoice because of his birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord. He is never to take wine or other fermented drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from birth. Many of the people of Israel will he bring back to the Lord their God. And he will go on before the Lord , in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous--to make ready a people prepared for the Lord. Fast Forward years later: During the high priesthood of Annas and Caiaphas, the word of God came to John son of Zechariah in the desert. He went into all the country around the Jordan, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. As is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: A voice of one calling in the desert, Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for Him. Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways made smooth. And all of mankind will see Gods salvation. Fast forward again: The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the One I meant when I said, A man who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me. I myself did not know Him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that He might be revealed to Israel. Then John gave this testimony: I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as dove and remain on Him. I would not have known Him, except that the One who sent me to baptize with water told me, The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is He who will baptize with the Holy Spirit. I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God. Fast forward again: When John heard in prison what Christ was doing, he sent his disciples to ask Him, Are You the One who was to come, or should we expect someone else? What??? After all that he had been told and all that had taken place in Johns life as it was foretold him ...he doubts??? Such is the lot of us people. In prison; in a rough spot; unable to do what were was born to do; physically weakened...Doubt creeps in and decays. May we take courage from dearly, departed John the Baptizers life...Hold fast to that which is Faithful and True; Unchanging; Unfailing; Enduring...The Word of God. The Man of His Word. For it will all be...just as He said. Yes, Jesus of Nazareth, was the Christ; Redeemer; Restorer of Israel and all who would believe and receive Him...and Undoubtedly He remains, in Love, the same.
