I HAVE A LEGAL QUESTION. I was in a courtroom waiting for my case to be called and I observed the sentencing of some of the defendants and their sentences were enhanced (increased) by their prior convictions. I have never seen this done before in California. Does anyone know what this is and confirm if what I observed is accurate. Defendants are having to pay twice for a conviction that they already paid the price for. Need some answers.
