I HAVE TO BITE THE BULLET AND TAKE MY PUNCHES I know a lot of people are going to take issue with this post, but as a doc I feel I have to chime in with my opinion. Many otherwise bright, mentally stable, Americans have decided that vaccinating their children against infectious diseases is a bad idea. They fear injury to their child, or even death. That unfortunate outcome is possible. It is also possible their child could be so afflicted in an auto accident, airplane crash, fall heir to any number of psychiatric, morphological, and inherited diseases by the time they reach forty. When it happens, it breaks your heart. The probability of these happening is far greater than the possibility of a tragedy occurring through immunization. Consider this: Smallpox was one of the great destroyers of humanity, but, through vaccination it is (to my knowledge) now nonexistent. Polio, measles, whooping cough, etc while not eradicated, are present and could be beaten and would be if all children were immunized against them.I am aware that some people have religious problems with immunization and I do not wish to force their kids to be immunized, but I would like them to consider this: Ebola is now slaughtering Africans and spreading across the African continent.A vaccine may soon become available for testing. If it proves effective and has no greater side effects than say...polio or measles vaccine and you were living in Africa, would you have your kids vaccinated against Ebola? I would. Im posting a picture of a new cobbler Joni read about and just made. Its called: Cherry tomato cobbler. Looks good anyway. And heres the link to my next blog post. oldsamsblog.wordpress/2014/09/15/god-babies-and-dumb-luck-part-2/
