I. Introduction The World Health Organization (WHO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that is concerned with international public health. It was established on 7 April 1948, with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and is a member of the United Nations Development Group. II. Esteblishment The constitution had been signed by all 61 countries of the United Nations by 22 July 1946. It became the first specialised agency and came into force on the first World Health Day on 7 April 1948. The first meeting of the World Health Assembly finished on 24 July 1948. II. Governance The World Health Assembly is the supreme decision-making body and generally meets in Geneva in May each year, attended by delegations from all 194 Member States. It reviews and approves the Proposed programme budget. VI. Conclusion More than 20 million people have died from HIV/AIDS and an estimated 34–46 million others are now infected with the causative virus, for which there is as yet no vaccine and no cure. The most important message of WHO’s report is that, today, the international community has the chance to change the history of health for generations to come and to open the door to better health for all.
