As salutatorian Collin Black reflected, the graduates have been through much together, good and bad, during their times as Raiders – but friendships grew stronger year by year. Black reminded his fellow seniors of all they’d achieved. Whether the new alumni were a part of the first robotics team, the building of the first Habitat for Humanity house or the best Raider football team in recent memory, the Class of 2013 is leaving behind a strong legacy. “As Raiders we became a family; as Raiders we made it to graduation,” Black said. “We entered the halls here a little uncertain, but now we stand proud and accomplished,” agreed valedictorian Mary Kate Bartlett. Among the seniors called out for special awards on Wednesday were Justin McAllister and Joshua Lafond-Favieres. The two were chosen from LDHS as SC Honor Graduates for their outstanding SAT scores and final GPA. Amanda Smith was also recognized by Principal Sonya Bryant for a unique achievement. Smith is the only member of the Class of 2013 who recorded perfect attendance all 12 years of school – or more than 4,300 days of education. Bryant thanked the parents, coaches, faculty and teachers who worked hard to ensure each senior waiting to receive a diploma was prepared for the next phase of life. “Regardless of where you go, you’ll always be a part of the larger Raider family,” she said.
