I Just read a post by friend Sandi Rudisill Teague about Rebecca Laws incredible suspended flower art installations. Her work inspired the #hpmkt Amazed Installation sponsored by #suryasocial in 2011 called Let Down Your Hair. The installation took place in the Showplace Building. One of 6 installed works used several hundred stainless steel fabric and hair cutting scissors suspended in free flight by clear nylon line over a mirrored base to give the viewer a sense of being trapped- the focus of hundreds of sharp pointed blades coming at you from above and below. The video posted below is an installation by Christian Boltanski called Flying Books in the original National Library building of Buenos Aires. Boltanski wanted to know where Borges worked; and the answer was here. And he was not alone among the great intellectuals of the day who spent much of their time in this place. Andrea and David went with me during their visit to see this exhibit. I think Laws work is stunning and beautiful. However I prefer installations which ponder a question and struggle to provide an answer that transcends the weaker visual sense and moves through the viewer with secret messages: a work that uses the eyes solely as a window to a greater audience of soul.
