I took that picture last Saturday in Pyay City, it is about farmers protest and demonstration because of land-grabbing in Pyay Up to one thousand farmers from Pyay district, western Bago Region, held a mass rally for the return of over 20,000 acres seized by the military and connected companies on Sunday. Protestors also called for the freeing of 12 Chin farmers, including U Sabei from Kyar-In village of Padung Township, who were sentenced at the Padaung township court on February 18. “This rally is said to be the biggest one in Bago region. It may become a driving force for next one. We will ask for the handling of land grab cases within three months period. We are planning to protest next time if the authorities concerned fail to deal with these cases. And there would emerge a nation-wide rally,” said activist Min Min. The district-wide rally committee has released a five-point statement calling for swift handling of problems many farmers are facing. In addition, a former political prisoner from Okkchitpin is being charged with the distribution of pamphlets urging people to join the rally. “We will open more protests if the government, the president and parliaments turn a blind eye to this case.
