I LOVE THIS POST! TRUE FACT: When I was in high school, I always made a point to sit and chat with students who seemed to have no friends, not well dressed and so on, and I always found them to be the nicest people I had ever met through my school years. I also remember some students at my high school asking me..Shirley, why do you talk to them?? I would say, why not??? I learned real young, with my dad as he would talk to everybody and would introduce me to everybody, poor, or not. And even I was a super shy kid..Still am in some very few ways.. Seriously...I did struggle with that growing up but I had enough nerve to approach other kids who seemed to also struggle. I was teased big time from grade 7 - 9, for loving and singing country music on local television and around my hometown!!! Little did they know how much I loved classic rock as well !!! LOL!!!... But I was still proud to love and sing country music, and I kept doing what I loved doing... No one ever stopped me, though it was hard, I would just ignore the negative comments...:/ I was almost beat up once by much bigger school girl because I sang country music, but somehow, I sweet talked my way out of a black eye...I will never forget that...Yikes!! Yes, I was scared.. I also make no bones about the fact that even my parents could never afford designer clothing for me and I could never keep up with teen fashions when I was growing up. I still dont!! LOL My dad struggled his entire life with mega episodes of kidney stone attacks since age 18 and he was constantly in the hospital which, eventually affected his real jobs. In the end, my father worked for himself when he was healthy enough, as a hard worker with many trades, musician/singer, carpenter, electrician, appliance repairman etc... You name it, he could do it. So my point is, not all kids are rich with friends or material things, and those who are not, are usually the nicest people you will ever meet.... And those are the ones who have always kept in touch with me through the years... This is a great post, that I think should be shared with the world... Life is short, be good to one another. Shirley Myers.
