I LOVE VIETNAM, MY COUNTRY In order to save her country, a Vietnamese princess agreed to marry the Champa King and thereby forced to move thousands of miles away from her homeland. This is what my performance is about and I believe it touches many of our hearts because we too had to travel far away from a place we called home. In 1975, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese risked their lives escaping their country in search of freedom. I will be eternally grateful to my parents for raising me and keeping me away from any hardships and suffering. I was fortunate enough to have a father who would put me to bed with a lullaby, attend all my music lessons with me, be at every performance and practice hours on end. My father chose to sang to me the songs of my country, Vietnam. He’d take the time to explain what each song meant so that my performances came from the heart. I come from a family of patriots, especially my father, and he wanted his daughter to grow up loving where she was from. Through my father and music, I learned how our people suffered during the war, how we united together to protect our country, how our heroes sacrificed themselves and how love kept everyone going. Today I perform “Nuoc Nom Ngan Dam Ra Di” with everything inside of me. As I play, I can feel the pain of my father as a young Captain after the war was lost, the suffering of my beautiful mother as she searched for her husband, and the sadness of my family as they escaped for freedom. I continue my father’s mission by introducing music to my sons and hope that one day they will proudly say, “I love Vietnam, my country.” “Toi yeu Vietnam que huong toi.” Please enjoy my performance and support my music group-DziemHuong, we also welcome all musicians at any level to join us so please don’t hesitate to contact me.
