I Miss My Big Sister, LeLani The thing that I cherish most about life probably would have to be my sister. She was always the one who had my back no matter what, and she taught me a lot of valuable lessons. One of those lessons was to stay in school no matter what happens, because it could be your saving grace one day. She told me this ever since I started going to school, and I never missed a class. But the day I lost her, I lost all of my drive for school and sort of gave up on life. It was like I lost my mentor. I was lost without her. I didn’t know where to turn or who to go to for help. She was the only constant in my life. Thats when I turned to the streets. It gave me a false sense of security that I cherished, ironically. I was using the streets to fill the void that was left in my heart when my sister passed. Then I started to come to jail, being in here gives me a lot of time to think about shhh. Ive come to the conclusion that my sister is probably looking down on me shaking her head. So from now on, Ive made the resolution to stay on the right path because I know that’s what my sister would have wanted. -Will, Alameda
