I.R.A.T.E. - Immediate Response to Acute Traumatic Events As I - TopicsExpress

I.R.A.T.E. - Immediate Response to Acute Traumatic Events As I watched the news footage of the Boston Marathon bombing, bus wrecks and other recent events, I was shocked (and somewhat angered) at the number of bystanders who were unprepared (from both a knowledge perspective and a supply perspective) to help the injured around them. The more I thought about these events, the more I became convinced we now live in a world where everyone needs to be trained and prepared to be an "IMMEDIATE RESPONDER". Regardless of how robust an emergency response system we design, there will always be a delay from the event to the arrival of the response system. It is during this time lapse that an "Immediate Responder" could make a significant difference in the survival of the injured. If the witnesses (the potential Immediate Responders) to such an event, can be trained to identify and correct those critical life-threatening injuries, I believe they can make a real difference. We those thoughts in mind, I have developed a 4-hour course that focuses on those life-threatening injuries and the immediate treatment needed to make a difference. The course is NOT a "general" first aid course that discusses medical conditions or non life-threatening accidents. The course does not result in a "certification" but provides the knowledge and tools you need to make a difference. The IRATE course is geared towards the general public (or non-EMS trained emergency responders) and focused only on the true threats to human life. The course also discusses the minimal equipment and supplies that can be carried to improve the survival chances of those injured. How many of you would be interested in such a course? (I believe the tuition for the course would be approximately $65 and would include a pocket trauma kit designed for every day carry. ). If there is sufficient interest, I will schedule a pilot course in the near-future and see what develops. Post your thoughts here or send me a message and let me know what you think. THANKS
