I SHOULD TRY BEING A GOD, INSTEAD Within: I am a boundless universe Stretching to no end Irreducible to an atom Alive but dead to unreason Fearful but absent fear Purpose driven But absent self-serving purpose Like breeze Whether gentle or fierce I am as am I. Without: I am but dubious owner Of a swath of earth Ring-fenced by boundaries Absent my making Free to choices make Tethered by consequences Of being tied to others stake I am me But only as they envision They live my life I live their fears. Woman: I am vessel fit To cradle mans birth But unworthy To his presence behold I give him His first breath of life But the bounds Of my life He dictates Before his ego I am denied voice Even when his infant steps Are by my arms guided His destiny Is by my hands moulded But my life Is by his pleasure gifted I am but object Of his desire He is but reason For my existence. Awakening: Day breaks at last And night as a mat Is folded Eyes wide shut Are like curtains Now parted Above their voices I rise to become The voice Of reason and Of self-awareness Their shackles Around my ankles Break like water On thirsty ground I define my life No longer a lamb supine I walk my path Unrestrained by their bounds I am my own riddle To solve My own mystery To unravel They shall suffer The fate of their faith I shall become The essence of me Freedom reins in My chains And gives flight To my wings I am as am I I should try Being a God, instead.
