I STILL have a personal policy about sharing too many videos on my wall. But were gonna bend the rules twice because its Friday. Following on from a conversation earlier, many of us who are concerned with the plight of companion animals (mostly dogs and cats) have legit concerns about what happens to them in a society where they roam free. I dont personally have a solution. But Ive often shared this 2010 ABC news story (with video) that describes what urban life looks like in (of all places) Moscow, where dogs catch the subway, develop social systems, and coexist with humans in a human-centered environment. Not only does this give us a glimpse into what a world may look like where companion animals are given their autonomy sans ownership, but it also dispels the myth that nonhuman intellect is undeveloped or inferior. It takes far more than mere instinct to master complex underground rail systems and get off at your stop (and it takes true cunning to be cute enough to solicit foodstuffs). Apparently, it might be possible that we can live together and the world wont end. abcnews.go/International/Technology/stray-dogs-master-complex-moscow-subway-system/story?id=10145833
