I Still Have a Wishlist Although I have been to every town in Australia and seen just about everything on the continent I still have a wish list: • I want to see Uluru when it is “raining on the rock” • I have never been to Norfolk Island • I have flown over, but never driven, across the Tanami Desert and I do want to see Wolf Crater. • I want to spend a day wandering around the Bungle Bungles. I have flown over the Bungle Bungles (and got some rather average photographs – have you ever noticed that when you take aerial photographs you don’t really “see” what you are photographing) and been impressed by their rugged beauty, the unique bell-like shapes and the way they seem to just jut up out of the flat, barren desert which surrounds them. When I drove around Australia in a 4WD I was tempted to drive to the formations but everyone I spoke to insisted that the road was impossibly difficult and that it took four hours to get to the main campsite … which meant eight hours of driving as I was not equipped for camping. Even today a friend, who has a very expensive 4WD, says he would not take it on the road to the Bungle Bungles. However looking at East Kimberley Tours I can see that next year when I go to Darwin and Kakadu I could easily drive across to Kununurra and take the one day tour. It’s a plan. In the meantime, if you are going to the area when you head north, splash out and go to the Bungle Bungles. You will gasp! I did. aussietowns.au/town/bungle-bungles-wa
