I Taught this cooking class today and when we were done the kids - TopicsExpress

I Taught this cooking class today and when we were done the kids get to ask questions and one kid asked the following. Why do you cook My answer follows. I cook to remember what it was like when I was your age. My best memories of family and friends always seem to revolve around food. The spiced peaches my Grandma canned in mason jars. The first time my dad took us to a Japanese restaurant. It had private rooms with sliding shoji doors and we sat on the floor around a low table. The potluck meals in North Beach with poets, painters, revolutionaries and lots of good seafood. These are the happy times I remember. As you get older Things get more complicated. You say the wrong things, do the wrong things some times hurt people you dont mean to hurt. Even if you make all that right and get back to a place where you are ok those things happened. In every culture eating food with someone is a sign of friendship and piece. That is because when we eat something great we are transported. We are all remembering what it was like to be 6 or 8 or 12 and things were not so complicated. When we remember that feeling our differences vanish and everything seems possible.
